KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 (Bernama) -- Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) will allocate between RM500,000 and RM3 million for each of the 13 branches it has identified to be transformed into signature branches nationwide. Its senior executive vice president and head of consumer banking, Spencer Lee, said Tuesday the signature branches were those located in more competitive and high traffic areas. The initial target was to complete all the 13 signature branches by end of this year, he said. According to the bank, the signature branches are part of its initiative to improve service delivery and implement more channels for customer convenience. "The pilot signature branch in Bukit Bintang launched today is Maybank's busiest branch, handling an average of about 2,000 counter transactions daily and monthly average of 150,000 cash withdrawals at its ATMs," Lee told reporters during the launch at Maybank Bukit Bintang here. Transformation cost for the Bukit Bintang branch was more than RM2 million, he said. With 70,000 customers each month, the new signature branch also houses the largest number of self-service terminals (SSTs) for a Maybank branch with 10 ATMs, six cash deposit machines, four cheque deposit machines, two Maybank2u.com kiosks, one passbook update machine and one helpline terminal. "We have expanded the SST area to enable customers to conveniently undertake their banking at a shorter time, thus giving them more time to do other things in this premier retail hotspot of Malaysia," Lee said. "For counter services, we have 13 counters and have set an average waiting time of a maximum two minutes to serve customers after they receive a queue number," he said. Maybank currently has around 400 branches nationwide. -- BERNAMA
